Week 15 Art Analysis Project

1. Use the vocabulary you have learned in class to describe this artwork or performance in detail.
Looking at this work of art is just so powerful to look at and its just so beautiful. This illustration is showing so much work just in one design, there's so many different sades of grey and black in this and going to white colors. It kind of feel like its a charcoal drawing, but at the same time I don't know if this is the real color of the drawing. The drawing is showing pain, hurt, war, sadness, and death. This drawing is all over the place but it's so beautiful at the same time because he was showing what was going on in the world at that time.
2. What processes were used to create this work? What social influences might the artist be responding to and why?
His influence was what was going on in the world at the same time he started to create this. Spain was his influence because that's where he is from and he showed him that he had something to look to for his works of art.
3. What is the relationship of this work to the time and society in which it was created? Describe the symbols used to express this relationship.
He made this during the time of the civil war going on and it showed how the people were taking the hurt going on in their world and they didn't know how to act any other way. They had to show that they were hurt and sad because of all the death happening there. He wanted to show the death and sadness in this painting and changed his whole painting when he found out this actually happened in a little town in Spain called Guernica.
4. Identify elements in the work that evoke a persuasive or emotional response. Be specific about what those responses are and why.
It showed am emotional response because when I looked at the painting and drawing of these things happening in Guernica and felt hurt and sadness because of what happened to these people in the town. I felt like I needed to know more about what was happening to the people in the town, and needed to search the information on it.
5. Evaluate what you perceive to be the strengths and weaknesses of the work.  Apply discipline specific vocabulary and concepts when describing your point of view.

It has showed so much power now that it was made because it shows what happened in the war and what was happening to the individuals that lived there. It shows a huge political statement that was left in our world, it was the reaction to the bombing happening in the town. People were dying and their families were full of sadness because their relatives were dying one by one.
