Week 15 Art Analysis Project

1. Use the vocabulary you have learned in class to describe this artwork or performance in detail.
Looking at this work of art is just so powerful to look at and its just so beautiful. This illustration is showing so much work just in one design, there's so many different sades of grey and black in this and going to white colors. It kind of feel like its a charcoal drawing, but at the same time I don't know if this is the real color of the drawing. The drawing is showing pain, hurt, war, sadness, and death. This drawing is all over the place but it's so beautiful at the same time because he was showing what was going on in the world at that time.
2. What processes were used to create this work? What social influences might the artist be responding to and why?
His influence was what was going on in the world at the same time he started to create this. Spain was his influence because that's where he is from and he showed him that he had something to look to for his works of art.
3. What is the relationship of this work to the time and society in which it was created? Describe the symbols used to express this relationship.
He made this during the time of the civil war going on and it showed how the people were taking the hurt going on in their world and they didn't know how to act any other way. They had to show that they were hurt and sad because of all the death happening there. He wanted to show the death and sadness in this painting and changed his whole painting when he found out this actually happened in a little town in Spain called Guernica.
4. Identify elements in the work that evoke a persuasive or emotional response. Be specific about what those responses are and why.
It showed am emotional response because when I looked at the painting and drawing of these things happening in Guernica and felt hurt and sadness because of what happened to these people in the town. I felt like I needed to know more about what was happening to the people in the town, and needed to search the information on it.
5. Evaluate what you perceive to be the strengths and weaknesses of the work.  Apply discipline specific vocabulary and concepts when describing your point of view.

It has showed so much power now that it was made because it shows what happened in the war and what was happening to the individuals that lived there. It shows a huge political statement that was left in our world, it was the reaction to the bombing happening in the town. People were dying and their families were full of sadness because their relatives were dying one by one.

Project 4 Reflection

My reflection on doing this project is that I thought this was really amazing to do because it was something different to do. Making an exhibit was very different and actually finding things to do it on was kind of hard to find though. Pictures/Artworks of happy dogs were really hard to find and trying to find who actually did the picture/artwork was so hard to find because some of the ones I actually wanted to use I couldn't find who actually did it and I was kinda mad about that.

Module 13 &14

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
Tate Modern showed me you can make something look bigger than it actually is and smaller than it is.
In an acquiring mind, I learned how to set up my exhibit pretty much, it showed how the museum was set up and showed how the colors worked together and showed many works of art. And in the third video showed me like old types of pictures and video, and also showed many colors and really old works of art which I really liked.
2. Do the videos relate to the creation of your Art Exhibition project? If yes, explain how. If no, explain why not.
Yes they do because they are giving me ideas on how to do it and showed me how to set mine up and what colors to use and how to set it all up pretty much which is really nice.
3. What is your opinion of the films? Do they add depth to understanding of the art concepts you practiced while creating your curation project?
The videos showed me a lot which was good because I didn't really know where to start with this project but now I do which is good. It added dept to the steps I have to follow.

Module 12

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.
Hockney on photography looked like Hockey to me, and that's my life and then I was like why not choose this, and the second one Andy Warhol sounded cool to learn about.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
Hockney was a very important contributor to pop art, he made a lot of prints, and his background colors and lightening were very different than others.
The second video I learned that Andy made the Campbell's soup artwork, and he was very big in pop art also.
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
We're reading about pop art and the art works with it.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?

I thought they were good films and showed good information.

There showing just people being themselves and laughing sometimes and being the artist they are.
3. How are the artworks different?
They aren't really that much different, they are doing different poses and some of them are up close and some from a far.
4. How are the artworks framed?
Not much framing he was making sure the pictures were on the walls.
5. How are the artworks identified and labeled?
Who the artists is and the framing of it and how big it is.
6. What is the proximity of the artwork to each other?
Mostly all the same size. Next to each other.
Step 4: Art Criticism Exercise
Select three of the artworks from the show and use the Art Criticism worksheet to desribe, analyze, bracket and interpret the work using the 5-step Art Criticism Process described. (see the sheet in the module folder)

Take pictures of the images you are interpreting. If this is not allowed, make quick sketches of the pieces.

 1.    Be receptive - Keep an open mind.  Look for what is good.  No put-downs allowed.

2.    Description – Describe what you see.  (subject matter)?

3.    Formal analysis – (form)  What principles and elements were used and how are they used?

4.  Bracketing - Is there anything in or about this work that reminds you of anything else? Do you see any symbols, metaphors, or allegories?  (iconography)

5.  Interpretation - (content)  What do you think the artist was trying to say?

David Moog (b. 1944), Joseph P Butera, 2015; Archival inkjet print, 20 x 15 inches; Gift of the artist, copyright David Moog, 2015

David Moog (b. 1944), Allie Brady, 2015; Archival inkjet print, 20 x 15 inches; Gift of the artist, copyright David Moog, 2015

David Moog (b. 1944), Nancy Belfer, 2015; Archival inkjet print, 20 x 15 inches; Gift of the artist, copyright David Moog, 2015

These are the three artworks I picked from the exhibit. I see three people from all different ages, their happy, their all different from each other. The others in the exhibit are all so different and they all look so happy as I can see.  They are made all the same by the black and white color of the photos, they are grouped in the same categorize because they all do the same things. it just reminds me of someone posting their own photos somewhere online for us to see.  The artist was trying to show that these artists are all the same to each other and we can look at them the same way as he sees them.

Step 5: Document Your Visit

1. Make sure all questions/answers from Step 1-3 are posting to your Blog.
2. Make sure you upload images of the 3 pieces of artwork you are interpreting to your Blog or Photobucket account. (If in Photobucket, be sure to hyperlink to Photobucket from your Blog posting).
3. Make sure you upload images that document your visit and experience of the physical space. If you cannot take pictures, upload your pictures, scan in the brochure images, or hyperlink to the Gallery website from your Blog.
4. Answer this question:What did you think of visiting the Gallery and purposefully looking at the exhibition from a different perspective - the physical space, the architecture, theme, etc.?
I really like going and going at all of the artworks there and seeing that half of the artists there are from this area which is really nice, I also like that we get a discount on the price because we are students at buffalo state. I also like how the Gallery is set up inside because of how normal and its not much color but all the color comes from the works of art there which is really amazing.

Module 11

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.
I've never heard of these artists before, only when they came up to pick. I chose Matisse and Picasso and the second one was the mystical north: Spanish art from the 19th century to the present.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
The first one I learned that their artworks are so beautiful and they used Paris for most of their works and what they wanted it to look like but then it started changing.
The second video I learned that most of the artworks were very violent and showed the war to the people. People are ruining the building that used to be so beautiful and now its turning into Disney land for tourists.
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
Were learning about these artists in the book and the techniques they used back then.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
I liked them because they show a lot of information but I wished they were just a little shorter.

Extra Credit Final Chance

COURSE CONTENT
1. Which assignment did you ENJOY working on the best? Why?
I think I enjoyed working on the logo making one the best because I thought that was a really cool idea to do for this class and it helped showed who I am with a couple pictures together.
2. Which assignment did you ENJOY working on the least? Why?
The least one I would say would have been was the mask making project. I didn't really like making that at all and I don't really have a reason behind it.
3. How did you like using BLACKBOARD?
I love using blackboard.

4. What is your opinion of the Discussion Groups in this course?
I liked them and then I didn't like them I would have rather have done a blog post because I thought this was a good idea to do something and have everything we are doing on.

5. Did you participate in any of the extra credit projects in previous modules? If so, what was your opinion of them? (mandala, elgin marbles, culture, art critics)
I did all of the extra credits and I thought they were all quite good and they helped us get some extra points when we didn't really need them but I still wanted them.

6. If you had the opportunity to change this course:
What would you keep? I liked mostly everything.
What would you remove? The mask making project.
What would you add? Some more blogs other than discussions.

7. Would you recommend this course to your peers?
I did recommend this course to my friend and he is trying to take it next semester because I liked it so much.

8. Please list any other comments you would like to share.

Thank you for teaching us the history of art, I hope to have you as my teacher again some day. also thank you again.
