Week 16 Reflections of Course

1. What were you expectations for this course and where they met?
I believe my expectations were met and I'm so glad I took this online class, and I am now taking two online classes next fall because of this one.
2. Now that you've been through this course, What is art? How would you define it now compared to your initial posting?
Art is everything to me and it still is, since my first post art is still everything to me and stayed the same I just learned new things about art.
3. Who was your favorite artist in your original posting and who is your favorite visual artist now? If there is a difference, why do you think so? If you have the same favorite artist, why do you think so?
My favorite artist is anyone that is located in buffalo mostly and people who are creating things here because this is my home town and theirs and all their works of art are amazing.
4. Now that you've completed this course, how do you feel about taking an online course? Is your answer the same as it was in your first posting? How is it the same or different?
I was unsure at first but I'm glad I did it and now I'm taking more because of this.

Mask creating.

1. Upload the three (3) inspiration images to your Blog (or link to your Photobucket account). Explain why you selected the inspiration pieces.

I picked these three because I really like the look of these and wanted mine to based off these.
2. Include the analysis and description (art criticism steps) of the three (3) inspiration pieces.
In the first one I used the shape I wanted to go off of, the second one I used the ribbon on the outside of the whole thing and third I used the little circles of jewels on mine.
3. Upload images of your sketchs and finished piece.

This is my mask, Don't mind me in the pictures I probably look crazy.
4. Explain how you used the Elements and Principles in your finished mask.
I went off them to finish my mask and it helped me figure out how I wanted it to come out to be.
5. Share your opinion of your finished mask and what you thought about creating the mask.
I like it but it could have been better if I went out and brought some things for it. I thought it was fun but a little weird.

Module 10 - Video Review

Questions and Topics for Your Blog Posting:
1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.
I didn't know about either of them so I decided to pick these. The ones I picked were African art and African art: legacy of oppression.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
In the first video I learned that it is in everyday life and everything we use and I didn't know that at all. It also is in rituals that they have.
The second video I learned the scream painting is telling a great story and it has reality behind it.
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
It is all the same. We are reading all about these things or like things like it in our book.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
The videos were quite good and they gave a good example for each. They actually showed us what the book was talking about.

1. What was it like using your hand as subject matter for a drawing?
it was very weird because I dont like my hands personally and I dont know how to draw them at all.

2. What media did you select - pencil or charcoal? Why?
I used a colored pen because that describes me personally.

3. How did it feel to create a drawing with your non-dominant hand?
It was horrible it looks like a little kid did my right hand.

4. Compare and contrast your final drawings. Do you think they are successful studies?
Yes because it shows a different look on the world kinda.

No because I dont like using my left hand to write or draw anything.

Module 9

I chose Velazquez and Albrecht Durer: Image of a Master because they were two names I've never heard of before and the others I have so I wanted to learn about these ones.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
In the first video I learned that most of his work is based on an earlier age and that he really liked drawing people and landscapes.
The second video I learned that it is located in Germany which I thought that was cool and he was born there too. He did the process of aging in paintings which was very good.
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
Because we are reading about the same things that were talked about in the videos and we talked about these men.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
I liked the films and they did go in enough depth about the lives of these men which was really nice to learn about their lives. I also liked the landscape they showed in the videos when talking.

Video Review Module #8

1. Explain why you selected the video you choose from the selection listed above.
The Measure of All Things: Greek Art and the Human Figure
I picked this video because I thought this was going to be interesting to learn about. I've never watched a video about this before so I thought it would be a good idea to.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
For More Human Than Human I learned that people create images in their minds every time they think of something. This video was very powerful and enlightening to learn about. It made you think of things you have never thought about before and that was very interesting.
In the Greek Art and The Human Figure I learned that it was so long ago that a human figure was born and artists starting to actually use the human figure in a different way and it was way more realistic for people to see. Many people started looking at themselves a different way also. The human mind and body was changed to believe in emotion put into there work.
3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
They were mostly talking about the same things that are in the book and why they work together and why we use them. It was also about our world and how it became our world today in history. They also talked about being more realistic too.
4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
I thought the first video was amazing and that everyone should be able to watch it to learn more about humans. and I believe both of them went into depth about there subjects because it gave me good answers on why they started doing what they were doing back then.

Video Review M7

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
First video I watched was Prairie Style.
http://fod.infobase.com/p_ViewPlaylist.aspx?AssignmentID=L6XZ2B

That he changed the face of modern architecture. The things he made were so perfect the way they came out. The buildings were his own designs and some were inspired but still amazing. They were groundbreaking and so amazing.
Second video I watched was
http://proxy.buffalostate.edu:2155/p_ViewVideo.aspx?xtid=5546

It was very scientific which I didn't know it was going to be all about science. I couldn't believe skyscrapers were made really by science and materials can be the symbol of modern architecture.
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

In the readings its mostly all about these things and how these things work together with one another.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of Architecture?
I thought the videos I watched really taught a good sense of the topics and showed a good examples of them too in the video. They did add a depth to the understanding of architecture because most of the things I had no idea about them till I watched both of these videos.
4. Why did you choose the films that you watched?
I feel like I picked these just because I didn't know about the first one at all and I mostly didn't know about the science of design either so I decided to go and watch them.

Video Reviews

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

For the first video I learned any sculpture is just made out of clay and turned into marble and I didn't know that at all. Because I always thought of clay being brown and not turning into something white like marble. I never learned about sculptures of Pont Neuf, the Parisian Bridge either. Everything is centuries old and so valuable now.
The second video I learned that these things cold be even older than the things talked about in the first video. I also wanted to go to a show to see how glass is made in those big fire pits and I've always liked watching videos on those kind of things.

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

Mostly all the chapters in the texts about these two things this week. And it ties them all together because its all about the same exact thing.

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the topics: Sculpture, Installation, and Craft?

I liked the second one better than the first. But I also wish the videos could be a little bit shorter on time, I know we are suppose to use 6 hours for this class but sometimes I can only fit 2-3 hours in with my busy school, work, and ice hockey schedules. They do add depth into understand each of these topics because we needed to learn about them by watching them and understanding where they are coming from other than just reading about them. I'd rather watch a video on things being made by one of these topics than reading about it in a book..

Module 6 - Reviewing art works

1.  First blog I looked at and commented on was Ryan's.

http://ryjsartblog.blogspot.com/

The second blog I looked at was on Emily's.

http://emilysartfundemental.blogspot.com/

Tried to find her Project #2 but it wasn't posted on her blog.

2. I agreed with both of them with what pictures they picked, they picked what felt right to them and we have the same view point I believe.

3. Ryan and I did not have any of the same pictures chosen.

4. Where there any images that your Peers selected that pique your interest now? If yes, what are they and what is your connection with them? What would you want to know about them?

On Emily's blog I would really like to know what her color photo was really of and how she took that.

On Ryan's blog I would like to know more about his shape picture and what it really was a picture of so close.

5. What do you think about the process of reading your peers reflection? Do you find this to be a valuable in your learning?

I really liked doing this actually, I liked getting to see what people would say about my pictures, and also it helped me learned a little about the other people in this class because we never see each other because it being on line and I liked that very much. Yes I do I would like to do this again.

6. Check your Blog and read comments posted by your Peers. Do you find their comments helpful?

They were really helpful from Emily and it helped me understand why I also choose those pictures and I hoped other people thought that way also.
